** 2 Options Are Available ***
Note that if you chose Option 2, you will either need to send in your unit for repair directly, or wait approximately 2 months for us to get a unit to repair. These are becoming hard to find and people arent returning their cores as often anymore for some reason. We can usually repair sent in units same day to minimize down time as you cant install the mirror without the drive unit in place.
Option 1:
Buy strengthened steel gears machined integral to the main spiral shaft + hi-torque motor in quantity 1 set for 1 mirror or 2 sets for 2 mirrors ($64.99 / $99.99).
Option 2:
Buy a rebuilt complete motor drive unit with new hi-torque motor + steel integral gear already installed and tested ($229.99 minus $30 core return = $199.99). Please note when buying the complete drive unit, you must choose passenger side or drivers side, and there is a $30 core refund so be sure to send back your old assembly in repairable condition. Core returns are only applicable to complete drive units and when you are ready to return your core, please email paul@gruvenparts.com for instructions. Your CORE must be rebuildable. We cannot accept units which have parts other than the motor/spur gear broken as cores as we would have no way to rebuild them.
***** PLEASE NOTE WHEN ORDERING THE COMPLETE DRIVE UNIT - If you are in a hurry for this, its best to check with us to see if we have any cores. It could be 4-6 weeks to receive this, based on how many units we have in the shop. People do not send back their cores very quickly, so we are usually waiting. You can send in your own unit to be worked as well, and we will apply the $30 core when you send in and try to work it same day or very quick.
Other Parts Available :
We also carry a limited number of used parts to service these mirrors in case you loose or break something. We have some of everything, so just email paul@gruvenparts.com if you need something. We do now have some used mirror glass drive units for both sides - these are the little motorized units that actually adjust the angle of the mirror glass.
** Product Description **
GruvenParts.com is pleased to announce replacement strengthened STEEL gears and high torque INTERNALLY GROUNDED motors (OEM MOTOR WONT WORK WITH METAL) for the power folding mirrors on most 2007-Present GM trucks including Acadia, Traverse, Enclave, Escalade, Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, and Denali. Also fits ALL 2007-Present GMC pick-up trucks. As many have discovered, the folding mirror assembly on these trucks suffers from a thin, weak, plastic spur gear mounted to the main drive shaft. The plastic spur gear cracks at the slightest impact or just wears out over time causing an inoperable folding mirror. The GM motors also get weak and die quickly. Unfortunately, GM will only sell you a complete folding mirror assembly, which will cost you from $700-$1,200 ea after labor and paint, depending on the year/make/model. And that $ would be wasted on another mirror assembly with another weak, plastic spur gear and weak electric motor that will also soon fail. Don't waste time or hard earned money on more GM parts that will also soon fail!
GruvenParts.com has addressed this issue by designing a strengthened integral spiral spur/worm gear shaft made from high strength steel to eliminate the fatigue cracking in the GM plastic gear. We have also designed a replacement high torque electric motor to accompany this new metal gear. Our new electric motor is required when switching out to the metal gear, as the ground circuit in the OEM motor does not allow for a metal gear to be installed. You can chose to buy the gear/motor combo for one or both sides or you can buy complete drive units which are rebuilt and already have the new metal gears and hi torque motor installed in them.
We have thoroughly tested our redesigned integral gear and high torque motor using a new, OEM mirror assembly and computerized test equipment. Our test samples barely showed any wear whatsoever, and the testing did include random wacks against the mirror, jamming the mirror operation as it was folding, and manually stressing the mechanism all in an attempt the break the gear. Each sample was tested more than 5,000 open/close cycles and was still going strong at that point !
This product carries a LIFETIME WARRANTY! Provided you don't burn the vehicle, or otherwise smash the mirror into something, you can send back the motor drive unit to us and we'll replace the gear assembly and get it working again free of charge. You would only be responsible for shipping under this warranty.
** Application **
Gears and Motors Fit Both Passenger and Drivers Side Power Folding Mirrors.
All 2007-Present GM Pick Up Trucks Including all Silverado and Sierra with Non-Towing Power Fold Mirrors -- please note the 2014+ pick up trucks used different plastics on the frame, so disassembly of the mirror frame doesnt match the previous gen DIY. The lower half of the drive unit with all the gears inside IS the same as the previous generation.
All 2007-2014 GM SUV's With Power Folding Non-Tow Mirrors Including Acadia, Traverse, Enclave, Escalade, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, and Denali.
This includes (but not limited to) the following mirror assembly part numbers :
25-83-12-36 (25831236), 25-77-98-49 (25779849)
This list of part numbers will continually grow as we build the interchange list. This is in no way complete, as most GM trucks made from 2007-2014 with power folding mirrors will use this gear. If your power folding mirror looks like the mirror shown in the DIY, this gear will fit your vehicle.
... We also have many more products for GM, including the towing mirror gears, 2015-Present SUV non-towing mirror gears, door lock motors, door handle inserts ! Check out the GM section of our website!

Purchased the two gears and motors. Put installation video on laptop and set it up in the garage. Followed the instructions of the video step by step and replaced the broken plastic gears and motors in the 2008 Avalanche and both work like a charm. It takes a while to disassemble the mirrors and release the spring, but instructions help make it doable. Great satisfaction in seeing them operate again. as they should.

I ordered the rebuilt motors for my mirrors on my 2007 avalanche. They were shipped USPS and I received them in 4 days. I reviewed the videos that Gruvenparts had online and had no problem removing the old motors and installing the new ones. The mirrors now work better than ever before. The mirrors feel solid and they fold in and out faster than before. I sent my cores back to Gruven and I just received my refund which took about three weeks. Overall this was a great experience.

Purchased the power fold mirror motor and worm gear drive for the GM DL3 mirrors. It's worth every penny. As long as you have the proper tools on hand, Installation is a breeze with the PDF files that are provided here on their website. Took about 2hrs to do one side and about 1hr for the other and that's only due to not having the proper grinder to shave down the metal tabs on one of the parts. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to repair their DL3 mirrors.

Replaced the mirror motor drive unit. Now my repaired mirror works better than the other OEM mirror........faster and quieter. The instruction video on the website was priceless. The only challenge was the R&R of the mirror glass which required some patience! Installation took about 2 hours total.

I ordered the motors and gears for both of my mirrors. One of my mirrors was not functioning, but I figured I'd preemptively repair the other one as well. It took me a little while to get the first one replaced properly, but once it was done, I was able to get the other side wrapped up in just 30 minutes.
I did add a little grease to the gears like the factory had on the plastic gears. I figured it couldn't be a bad thing.
Both mirrors now function flawlessly and they even fold/unfold faster than before. I tested the passenger mirror with the new motor and gears against the driver's mirror with the functioning factory motor and gears.

Replaced 2011 Tahoe power mirror gear and electric motor. Took a bit of time but parts were great quality and instructions were good. Be very careful on collet alignment...read instructions and follow closely. Also, not sure how I could have done it without an arbor press...lots of tension on the spring. Saved lots of $ doing it myself. Highly recommend.

After receiving the part I was able to install the part after watching the tutorial that was on utube. After assembly the unit is working great. A lot fast than the other mirror.thanks gruvenparts.

It would be helpful to make a video for the 2016 Ram Trucks like mine, so I relied on the PDF. Took me about 3 hours but that was mostly me being careful to gently tug all of the wired connectors so I don't destroy them when I unplug. A few notes on the PDF:
1. The mirror instructions should be revised: Unlike the pre-2014 trucks, to remove the mirror, you just lower it down as much as it will go, grab the top half with your full hands and fingers (wear gloves), and YANK it down 45 degrees. I promise you won't break the mirror. There's just two clips on the top, and the bottom is a hinge. There are several videos on YouTube of people who show how to do it this way.
2. Etching a mark on the base and the motor is super smart to make sure you put it in the way you removed it.
3. I guess I could have bought a cheapo press/vice from Harbor Freight to push down the spring, but I did it with a large C-clamp, and a 1" deep socket. You could have a friend push down the socket while you turned the spring retainer - it's not THAT strong.
4. I just don't see a need to grind down the Collet. The nylon gear lasted seven years, so I imagine that your metal gear will last another seven.
5. LOL the new motor runs so much faster (and louder) than the original. It's funny to watch the driver side fold in half the time that the passenger side does.
Bottom line, 5-stars. The body shop wanted $700 to replace the mirror. The dealer wanted $600 for the entire powered mirror assembly - they would not just sell the motor.
So basically I spent
$70 for this part
$8 for a large C-clamp (to use as a make-shift press)
$9 for a cheapo set of torx screw drivers
$10 for a 1 inch deep socket. (prob didn't need a two inch deep socket)
Effectively saving $500 and the joy of getting to know how a sideview mirror works.

Thanks Jeremy and good job on repairing yours ! FYI the tabs on collet SHOULD be ground down. Those are there because the OEM knew the plastic gear would break, and when it does the entire mirror head can back drive (fold in) from the force of the wind. So, to prevent that, they added the bumps (tabs) protruding off the collet. However, now the mirror drive unit most overcome those tabs on every fold and unfold cycle, which stresses the internals and motor, needlessly. I say needlessly because once you install this strengthened metal gear it wont break. If it did break, you would of had to smash the entire mirror off the truck and you have a totaled vehicle at that point anyways so the mirror is the least of your problems ...
Bottom line is grinding tabs off collet allows mechanism to move easier and smoother and quieter and the tabs are NOT needed because the metal gear is now stronger than anything else in the unit.
