GruvenParts.com is PROUD to release this LIFETIME WARRANTIED SOLID BRASS GEAR SET for 2007-2014 GM truck power seat height adjustment mechanisms !  This set includes 1 helical cut solid brass main gear AND a solid brass mating worm drive gear.  Do NOT just replace the spur gear, you need both the brass spur and mating brass worm gear for a bulletproof mechanism.  These gears exactly match the GM plastic versions but are many times stronger so they will not chip, strip, or break.  This is a GREAT WAY to save money AND make your GM truck seat power height adjustment mechanism BULLETPROOF!  We all know that GM will not sell these gears - instead, they make you buy an entire new power seat unit (with more plastic gears that will also soon break or strip).  Don't waste money on more plastic gears, or incomplete gear sets.  The GruvenParts.com gear set includes EVERYTHING that wears out and replaces them with SOLID BRASS GEARS - LIFETIME WARRANTIED !

The larger helical cut spur gear easily attaches to the main shaft via 24 hour cure epoxy, such as 24 hour JB weld 8265S (readily available at Home Depot, or on Amazon).  You can quickly and easily remove the remnants of the GM plastic gear using a small dremel tool then just clean the underlying shaft before application of epoxy.  The brass worm gear simply replaces the cheap plastic worm gear in the unit.

This product is sold as a set of 2 gears - (1) Brass Spur Gear and (1) Brass Worm gear.  This is enough to fix ONE (1) power height adjustment mechanism.  Please note there are TWO (2) power height adjusters on each seat - one for the seat front and 1 for the seat back.  This does not fix the power forward / aft or seat recline features.

This product fits all 2007-2014 GM Trucks with Power Seats, Including Escalade, Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, Denali, DTS and likely many others.  The part numbers for the seat tracks which these gears fit into are : 22-80-44-17 (228044170, 22-80-44-18 (22804418), 22-80-44-19 (22804419), 22-80-44-20 (22804420), 20-77-91-09 (20779109), 20-77-91-10 (20779110) as well as many others.  This part number list will continually grow !

** Installation Instructions **

1. Access bottom of seat structure.  This is easiest by removing power seat entirely from vehicle.  Remove power seat bracket from bottom of seat bottom.

2. Remove the flexible drive shaft for the height adjustment drive box.  You can pull the drive box away from the drive shaft slightly to gain the needed clearance.  The flex drive shaft will fall out.  Please be sure to mark the drive shafts if you are replacing both height gear sets as the drive shafts are different lengths.

3. Remove the Four (4) 1/4" screws holding each height adjustment drive box together.  Remove and discard the plastic worm gear.  Position the main spiral shaft with over-molded plastic spur gear such that the plastic spur gear can be cut off using a dremel wheel or similar.

4. Cut across the width of the plastic spur gear.  Its OK to cut slightly into the underlying steel shaft.  Wear eye protection !  Remove the old plastic spur gear and clean off the underlying steel shaft.

5. Using a 24 hour epoxy such as JB Weld 8265S, thoroughly coat the steel underlying shaft.  Slowly thread on the new brass spur gear, wiping away any excess JB weld.  Once the JB weld dries, it is extremely hard to remove so clean any excess epoxy.  Position the new brass gear such that the metallic washer recess is facing the spirals, just like the OEM layout.  There should be about .050" of main shaft exposed (not including shaft ball end) once new brass gear is installed.  You can also look at the OTHER height mechanism and measure its gear placement.

6. Allow epoxy to fully cure per manufacturers instructions.

7 Reassembly is reverse of removal.

  1. Brass Gears for 2010 Suburban 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Dec 2019

GM should have used these from the beginning but we all know how cheap car makers are. The best alternative to plastic gears. Have being an auto tech for 20 years these replacement gears are great. Follow the directions and let the JB Weld cure, reassemble & enjoy the repaired product. I would order them again in a heart beat if any of the other seat transmission gears break. Thanks for a great product.

An excellent product to replace faulty plastic gears that GM used in there power seats. I wanted to install 2 kits in front and rear height adjusters since I was taking the seat assembly out anyway. Very glad I ordered the extra kit as the 2nd height adjuster was starting to fail also. I was able to install the kits fairly easy but for the novice installer a step by step instruction sheet and a lube packet included with the kit would be a necessity I would think. All in all a two thumbs up product made from brass and far superior to the cheap plastic gears available. Great job Guys!

  3. 2010 Tahoe Driver's Seat Gear 5 Star Review

GM Truck BRASS Seat Height Adjustment Gears worked just like the web page said. Price was very reasonable considering the dealer would only sell the complete seat base with all gears and rods at over $700 plus installation!

    -- response --

Thanks for the review ! Yep, no point at all in paying $700+ for another seat base to get more plastic. The only thing failing on that seat base IS the plastic gears, so this resolves the issue, prevents if from ever happening again, and saves you ~$650. Seems like a no brainer :)

  4. Great product. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Mar 2019

Well made and get's the job done. Had to file down the knurls on the shaft to get the new gear on but that allowed me to make it nice and snug. I only used JB weld and working fine so far.

Also, found that if the seat were in the full raised position I had more room to deflect the shaft assembly over to get the gear around (out of) the black transmission box. That part is a little tricky.

Watch for the small parts such as the shim and the washer on the gear. They want to fall and can end up lost in the seat.

Finally, Paul was great and responsive in answering my questions. I think more detailed instructions with photo's could help him in having to deal with customer Q&A. Just a thought Paul. Thanks!

I wasn't sure I would trust the epoxy, so I drilled the gears for 1/8" roll pin, positioned the gears on the shaft and drilled the shaft. I also used epoxy just to give a solid base to the spur gear. So far, works great.

    --- Response ---

Ok thanks Bob for the review. People do ask quite a bit about the epoxy. As mentioned in instructions, if you use JB WELD 24 HOUR CURE EPOXY, you will not need to install a roll pin.

Ive epoxy'ed an entire OIL PAN back together on an old mercedes 124 which had a crack that was 10" long and nobody would weld it and removing from the vehicle would of been thousands in labor. The JB Weld worked wonders, drove it another 150K miles like that. Its super strong stuff ... just make sure the mating parts are clean, free from oil, and ALLOW IT TO FULLY CURE and you wont be able to get it back off unless you take a torch to it...

  8. Great Fix! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jul 2018

The seat adjustment kit works great (2012 Silverado Crew cab duramax). I did have one question after hours, called and left a voice main and the next day I received a return call to answer my question. Super solid replacement part and great customer service! My only complaint is the shipping cost (as the website suggested, I did not use USPS so the cost was steep for the small size of the two parts) but still much cheaper then a new seat.
