Product Description

GruvenParts.com Intake Manifold Linkage Arms – Warranted for Life ! These links come in sets of 2 which is enough for 1 car.

Dont replace your linkage arms with full Delrin plastic arms - they will break, and they are the reason you are on this page in the first place!  Ours are made of high strength aircraft aluminum and use Delrin ONLY in the non-stressed socket region which is fully encased by aircraft aluminum to promote lubricity.  Delrin by itself cannot handle the high engine heat without an aluminum casing and is NOT INTENDED to be used for the highly stressed main body of the part.  Aircraft aluminum is many many times stronger and withstands much higher heat than Delrin.  Do this job once and be done with it as many thousands have, including Audi and VW dealers.

Got a 4.2L V8 Audi or VW ? Then you had better check your intake manifold actuator arms (p/n 077-198-327A, 077198327A)! These engines have a variable intake manifold which is opened by 2 plastic linkage arms. Unfortunately, the OEM linkage arms are molded from cheap plastic and quickly snap during normal use.

Broken intake arms result in a sluggish engine which stumbles and looses power and fuel economy. To make matters worse, VW and Audi will only sell you an entire repair kit (p/n 077-198-327A, 077198327A) for over $400. And, each repair kit they sell only contains 1 short or long linkage arm. So if you have broken 2 linkage arms, you are out $800!

GruvenParts.com has solved this problem by designing custom billet aluminum intake manifold arms for maximum strength and unbeatable wear resistance. Our billet linkage arms are many times stronger than plastic arms and are guaranteed for life from a company that has been supporting this community since 2001 (not a fly by night unknown!)

Unlike VW/Audi, we sell these arms by themselves so you aren’t buying new actuators you don’t need in a $400-$800 repair kit. And unlike VW/Audi, GruvenParts.com WARRANTIES THESE PARTS FOREVER ! Which means you will never need to worry about them again.  Buy from a known company that has been supporting these cars since 2001.

Do what many VW and Audi dealers have already done – buy the GruvenParts.com Intake Manifold Linkages and forget about this problem once and for all!

These linkages come in sets of 2, which is enough for 1 vehicle. Installs in seconds, simply snap the end links onto the actuators and you’re done! These are specially sized for each vehicle; please choose your vehicle from the drop down menu below.

Fits the following vehicles and replaces linkage arms in P/N 077-198-327A, 077198327A :
2004-2007 VW Phaeton V8
2003+ VW Touareg V8
2002-2004 Audi A6/Avant V8
1998-2004 Audi A6/S6 Quattro V8
2000+ Audi A8/S8 Quattro V8

Note
If you are buying these for an Audi, you will need to measure your OEM linkage arms and select the correct length from the drop down menu. These cars got EITHER 1” or 2.25” arms so you need to specify. The dimension is an estimate, from center of the ball to center of the ball on the arm. Use the product picture on this page to visually determine if your car has the long (2.25”) or short (1”) arms.

  1. Why isnt all the black plastic in Audi engine bays made better??? 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Mar 2015

Seriously though, if it weren't for aftermarket companies like Gruven that take it upon themselves to help customers, then Wed all be stuck paying through the nose for full top end rebuilt kits. These actuator arms are a prime example. Beautifully made and fit to a tee, these are an awesome product. Not to mention, after you buy these you're pretty much done for life. Now you can work on replacing all of the other little black plastic bits that fail ;)

  2. GREAT DEAL 5 Star Review

Best part for the job, way too expensive from dealer and repeat repairs. This product does the job and basically lasts forever.

  3. Gruven intake parts 4 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Feb 2015

I just itnstalled these Gruven parts on my 2004 Touareg v8. One of the plastic arm would constanly come off and I would lose it's function. This really is a problem that VW should have addressed on these very expensive vehicles. The parts actuate the intake ports which are designed to allow in the appropriate amout of air at the appropriate time. If they fail, much of the time your vehicle won't breath properly. The intake now operates properly and I hope my milage and performance improve. It' will take a while to assess the results.
By the way I took the advice of one of the previous posters and popped them on with a small C clamp. It worked great. When getting the old ones off, I shot some lubricant onto the ball sockets and popped them off with a screw driver.

    Regards Bill

  4. Excellent replacement for OEM Plastic Rods 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Feb 2015

I own an Auto Repair company in Frederick MD. This is one of the best aftermarket replacement parts I have used. VW forces you to buy "Kits" from $300 to $400 each if both rods are broken. These rods are stronger and installation was very easy. A major savings and a upgrade from OEM plastic.

  5. Quality parts; BUT beware install 4 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Jan 2015

I am satisfied with these intake manifold linkage arms, and, after approx 1000 miles of running, they are performing well. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase.

My only suggestion is regarding the installation - in the DIY, it is shown via the images that pliers/etc. can be used to press the ball joints together. I would NOT recommend this strategy. I did experiment with it, and decided that the forces/angles required with such tools may cause damage.

I had great success with using a small C-clamp to press the joints together. It was easier and ensured that the forces were aligned with the joint. I would suggest revising and/or noting this for the DIY.

Chris - thanks much for that suggestion, I hadnt thought of using a small clamp to apply the clamping force needed. We generally use a small pair of channel locks, with the ends wrapped in several layers of thick tape, to prevent marring the nice finish on our parts. Working slowly, you can align the channel locks correctly and gently apply squeezing force to them to snap the sockets over the balls. Your suggestion is also excellent !

  6. Excellent! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Dec 2014

I am so glad Gruven Parts has made the links. The price is unbeatable. The other option would be to buy the complete actuator assembly from Audi for about $300 per side.

Thanks for the review! These and most other parts on this site come from suggestions from you guys, so we appreciate all of your help identifying the problematic parts so we can come up with the fix for them. Have a happy and safe New Years!

  7. 4.2 manifold levers 4 Star Review

Product seems well built and designed to be good aftermarket replacement, for a factory design flaw in making the original out of plastic

  8. Nice product but... You don't have a choice. 3 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Oct 2014

I've had to buy 2 sets of these over the last couple years as I own 2 Touaregs.

The only issue I have is Gruvenparts has you over a barrel. You can either buy these $90.00 parts of replace your entire manifold through the dealer. Obviously this make more financial sense however, charging $90.00 for a product that maybe has 40 hrs of R&D involved it just a bit pricey. ANd yes I'm guessing on the R&D time. These are simple dogbones, no moving parts just a blank metal piece.

Don't get me wrong, they are very high quality and I'm glad they are available, its just tough paying this much for parts that are tiny and are just not complicated .
Fact is this is still a better option then the dealer and if I need another set I'll be back again.

    <Response from Gruven>
Thanks Daniel. If you watched the machining process you would see why these are not cheap. If you are ever in Atlanta, please call or email and perhaps we can do a shop tour. These are milled from thick plate and require multiple operations. We also had to build special fixtures to make the Delrin inserts and to install them properly. I know we all want inexpensive parts, but these do have a lifetime warranty so you will never need to worry about them again.

  9. Just a great alternative 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Oct 2014

This is a great alternative than to having to replace the entire intake manifold just for 2 tiny plastic arms. Thanks.

  10. QUALITY PRODUCT, AND GOT MY CAR BACK 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Sep 2014

Installed them last night and took my car to work this morning. The difference (in my case where only one was broken) is incredible. Easy installation, all you need is some common car sense, a big flathead and some pliers. My A6 feels responsive and doesn't hesitate anymore. Quick and easy shipping, and I called and customer service was very helpful .

Thank you for making a wonderful fix to a pricey issue.

And as a side note they look great too.
