GruvenParts.com Intake Manifold Linkage Arms – Warranted for Life ! These links come in sets of 2 which is enough for 1 car.
Dont replace your linkage arms with full Delrin plastic arms - they will break, and they are the reason you are on this page in the first place! Ours are made of high strength aircraft aluminum and use Delrin ONLY in the non-stressed socket region which is fully encased by aircraft aluminum to promote lubricity. Delrin by itself cannot handle the high engine heat without an aluminum casing and is NOT INTENDED to be used for the highly stressed main body of the part. Aircraft aluminum is many many times stronger and withstands much higher heat than Delrin. Do this job once and be done with it as many thousands have, including Audi and VW dealers.
Got a 4.2L V8 Audi or VW ? Then you had better check your intake manifold actuator arms (p/n 077-198-327A, 077198327A)! These engines have a variable intake manifold which is opened by 2 plastic linkage arms. Unfortunately, the OEM linkage arms are molded from cheap plastic and quickly snap during normal use.
Broken intake arms result in a sluggish engine which stumbles and looses power and fuel economy. To make matters worse, VW and Audi will only sell you an entire repair kit (p/n 077-198-327A, 077198327A) for over $400. And, each repair kit they sell only contains 1 short or long linkage arm. So if you have broken 2 linkage arms, you are out $800!

GruvenParts.com has solved this problem by designing custom billet aluminum intake manifold arms for maximum strength and unbeatable wear resistance. Our billet linkage arms are many times stronger than plastic arms and are guaranteed for life from a company that has been supporting this community since 2001 (not a fly by night unknown!)
Unlike VW/Audi, we sell these arms by themselves so you aren’t buying new actuators you don’t need in a $400-$800 repair kit. And unlike VW/Audi, GruvenParts.com WARRANTIES THESE PARTS FOREVER ! Which means you will never need to worry about them again. Buy from a known company that has been supporting these cars since 2001.
Do what many VW and Audi dealers have already done – buy the GruvenParts.com Intake Manifold Linkages and forget about this problem once and for all!
These linkages come in sets of 2, which is enough for 1 vehicle. Installs in seconds, simply snap the end links onto the actuators and you’re done! These are specially sized for each vehicle; please choose your vehicle from the drop down menu below.

Fits the following vehicles and replaces linkage arms in P/N 077-198-327A, 077198327A :
2004-2007 VW Phaeton V8
2003+ VW Touareg V8
2002-2004 Audi A6/Avant V8
1998-2004 Audi A6/S6 Quattro V8
2000+ Audi A8/S8 Quattro V8
Note
If you are buying these for an Audi, you will need to measure your OEM linkage arms and select the correct length from the drop down menu. These cars got EITHER 1” or 2.25” arms so you need to specify. The dimension is an estimate, from center of the ball to center of the ball on the arm. Use the product picture on this page to visually determine if your car has the long (2.25”) or short (1”) arms.

The product is as described and reviewed here: well-designed and beautifully made. Maybe I'm just a sucker for anything advertised as made of "billet aluminum".
During install, I did need to use a pair of pliers to snap the ball into place. I was wary of breaking the remaining plastic part and it was easier to detach two vacuum lines (replacing one in the process) to give them a squeeze with the channel locks to snap them into place. Maybe wrap a towel around it to prevent any gouging ...such pretty parts.
I guess I wasn't paying attention when my arms broke because I didn't notice a major drop in performance but I sure noticed it once it was fixed. Good grief. My car is fun to drive again!
Thanks gruvenparts!
>>Response : Awesome, thanks Dave! Please post some install pics on the forums so everyone can see. Glad they restored the power and be advised we do also sell the billet pivot levers too (the part these clip onto).

So much better than the plastic original parts.

This is a beautiful product, The one item that is missing is that the manifold arms typically break due to the internal manifold switch over valve shaft is binding. This issue has to be resolved to ensure that no other component is going to break now that this link is probably not going to break.
(Note: the Vacuum valves should pull the arms in when the engine is started.)
Thanks for giving me an option to the dealer supplied parts Kit $$$$

Helpful over the phone overnight shipping setup. Well made, looks like they will outlast the car for sure. Nice to have an alternative to stupid expensive junk OEM ''buy everything in a kit you dont need" linkage.

These worked out great for replacement of the cheap plastic arms they have in charge for such a vital operation. Love them and will definitely order more if the need arises on any other vehicles.

Face it--we love our Audis, especially the more sturdy platforms that can easily make 200K of driving pleasure. But we hate the poor design decisions (I'm looking at you, tie-rods on my 2000 S4) that Audi makes, combined with the larcenous cost of OEM replacement parts that should never wear out. My 2003 S8 may have a frame of space-age aluminum, but the car can only breathe via the intake actuators, and the arms that control them are made out of crappy plastic. And cost $425 to replace from OEM stock. Each. These aluminum replacement arms ($89 for a pair) are made to very high tolerance, and although my shop was skeptical of this as they should be of any small manufacturer, they said they went on as slick as anything. My actuators are now ready to go to 400K.

Thanks for the review Bill. You are spot on with the car design, it seems Audi made some things NASA level, and others ... not so NASA ... Their replacement prices all seem to be NASA, though. We hope you are satisfied with these intake arms. They are milled from 6061-T651 plate on 1 of our brand spankin new HAAS mill centers, its a really interesting process. I would post the video, but our CNC manager would not like that, as he spent many hours developing the program to actually build these parts. As always, if you have any issues down the road with this part just call or email and we'll replace it free. This is the last time you will need to spend $ on the intake arms for that car. Now, what else can we make for it in the same fashion ? Paul@GruvenParts.com

I was quoted a price of £520 at my local Audi dealer in the UK to replace these 2 bits of plastic so a quick Google threw up several forums praising the replacement items from Gruvenenparts.com so i ordered 2 arms and even with shipping to UK the total price was less than £80. I was amazed at the quality of the parts compared to the plastic rubbish from Audi and now fitted has transformed the performance of the car.

Audi is trying to pork customers by selling an inferior replacement part for an exorbitant amount of money .This alternative is hands down the only way to go. Audi is foolish not stocking this part on their shelves.
