GruvenParts.com is proud to release the billet stainless side/side cable reduction bracket as well as solid stainless fwd/aft cable shift repair blocks for the 02A cable shift VW vehicles.
The side/side stainless reduction L bracket replaces the black plastic OEM side/side transfer bracket P/N 1J0-711-256 (1J0711256) or 1H0-711-250 (1H0711250) or equivalent. Our version will reduce side/side throw by about 35% and remove a known weak plastic failure point. Our stainless version can literally withstand you driving the car over it, so this will end any nonsense which the plastic OEM part causes.

In addition to the replacement stainless side/side transfer bracket, we also produce stainless repair blocks for the forward ends of both cables where they meet the transmission. These repair blocks will quickly replace the weak forward ends of the factory fwd/aft and side/side shift cables where they connect to the transmission linkage. It is also commonly used for "side of the road" repairs when the cable ends break. Simply tighten down the 4 stainless internal hex bolts to grab the cable and use the existing hardware to re-attach the cable end to the transmission linkage. The factory shift weight on the fwd/aft cable is retained, and these parts add even additional weight for smoother shifting. If your cables are not yet broken, these are a good idea to keep on hand in the glove box and be prepared for the inevitable!
There is no need to source an entire shift cable mechanism (which is very hard to find, and also quite pricey) in the event of a broken forward shift cable end. Simply install these repair blocks and you are back on the road and ready for action!
These parts are all made from stainless steel block and utilize all stainless fasteners, so there is never a worry about corrosion. You will need to carefully trim away a bit of the cable outer sheath to provide access to the cable itself to install these repair blocks. You will also need to adjust the cable shift mechanism after installation.
You can buy these parts a la carte, or together as a kit and save. Just chose your option from the drop down menu.
These parts fit the manual 02A transmission and automatic 096/01M transmissions commonly found on MK3 and MK4 Jettas, Golfs, GTI's, TDI’s, Beetles, Passats, and Corrado VR6. If you do not have either the 02A, or 096/01M transmission, please email paul@gruvenparts.com with a picture of your linkage system where it connects to the trans before ordering so we can verify correct fitment.

It work great! Save me better shifting

Saved me from having to replace the entire cable. It was a little difficult to access the set screws but I eventually found the right tools to get them tight. I also wish a new washer was included with this part.

The quality of these billet blocks are great. I would suggest maybe a better write up for the installation process more so towards the adjustment of the cable ends on the levers. As im still trying to sort out stiff shift points after installing your product. Other then that great product keep up the great work. I will totally recommend this set to anyone looking to upgrade.

A HUGE step up from the stock VW Linkages!
I ordered the entire set (since I hate having plastic MOVING parts in my VR6)
and it was worth every penny!
My engine bay becomes extremely hot, and my shifts start becoming "gooey" over time, but after I swapped in the quick shifter and the two linkage ends, I have not had that issue ever! It feels great shifting, 5th gear doesn't feel so far away to the right either with the quickshift kit, and goes great with my aftermarket bracket bushings!
You can't go wrong with GruvenParts, always a pleasure buying from them!

I broke the plastic shift linkage on my 99.5 Golf and ordered both shift cable repair blocks and the shift reduction bracket.
It was easy enough to remove my Q-bond fixed plastic shift bracket and dremel off the plastic piece off the top cable.
The bottom cable had an cast metal piece on the end with a rubber/plastic bushing in it and it did not come off the end of the cable easy, but with a little work with some vice grips and a dremel it came off.
The parts fit very nicely and look amazing. Just remember the Loctite for the set screws on the new cable ends.
When all was happy under the hood and adjusted correctly it reduced my side/side throw substantially. 5th gear no longer feels like it is a mile to the right. All the gears shift like butter and the shifter feels a lot more solid when it is in gear.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who has this particular linkage setup to spend the little bit more and upgrade to these all metal parts that will never break.
