GruvenParts.com has now released these billet aluminum intake manifold linkage arms for the VW/Audi 1.8T and 2.0T engines!.
Ours are Guaranteed for Life! - Would VW / Audi say that about theirs ??!
This GruvenParts.com billet linkage arm replaces the plastic intake manifold linkage arm found on p/n 06J-133-201-AS (06J133201AS) manifold, as well as manifold part numbers 06J-133-201-AL, 06J-133-201-G, 06J-133-201-BD (06J133201AL, 06J133201G, 06J133201BD).
As you already know if you are reading this, the OEM linkage arm is made from cheap plastic and becomes very brittle in the engine heat. The linkage arm socket often pops off of the ball on the manifold, rendering the variable intake manifold useless. This in turn causes a check engine light to illuminate as well as poor driveability, reduced power, and reduced fuel economy. Of course VW/Audi will not sell you *JUST* this part, you have to buy an entire new intake manifold to replace the cheap plastic linkage arm (with another cheap plastic linkage arm). While the manifold is pricey, the installation of the manifold and the entire manifold gasket set is where it will really cost you – most dealers and shops charge about $1,200 to remove/replace the intake manifold!
We think having to pay over $1,200 to replace a poorly designed plastic part on your intake manifold is ridiculous (and that’s putting it nicely). GruvenParts.com is now producing these linkage arms the way VW/Audi should have: from a solid chunk of 6061-T651 Aircraft Grade Aluminumon a 4 axis CNC milling center. Ours come with a special Delrin insert installed into the machined socket to precisely mate with the ball on the intake manifold. This provides excellent lubrication and unmatched strength. Did we mention Ours are Guaranteed for Life!
This part can be installed with the manifold on the engine. Unclip the 2 actuator halves and remove the long spring and rubber diaphragm within the actuator. Unclip the useless plastic linkage arm from the manifold ball (if it hasn’t done that on its own already). Reinstall the rubber diaphragm onto our billet link arm, slide it thru the actuator, then firmly snap it onto the ball. Replace the spring and snap the actuator halves together. This should take 10 minutes, and you can do this yourself – no need for $1,000 in labor to replace a whole manifold!
You asked us for it and we listened. Another great billet replacement part to rid your VW/Audi of the weak plastic parts!
Applications:
Volkswagen : Beetle, EOS, CC, Golf and Jetta V and VI, Passat B6, and Tiguan 1 and 2 with the 1.8T or 2.0T engine w/ intake manifold p/n 06J-133-201-AS (06J133201AS), as well as manifold part numbers 06J-133-201-AL, 06J-133-201-G, 06J-133-201-BD (06J133201AL, 06J133201G, 06J133201BD).
Audi : A3, TT, TT Coupe, TT Roadster 2007-2012 with the 1.8T or 2.0T engine w/ intake manifold p/n 06J-133-201-AS (06J133201AS), as well as manifold part numbers 06J-133-201-AL, 06J-133-201-G, 06J-133-201-BD (06J133201AL, 06J133201G, 06J133201BD).

Part arrived in Australia after about 10 days, took 10 minutes to fit. Snaps in place firmly much more than cheap original part. Once fitted revved engine to require amount and chrcked to see if all was working. It works, It works. No CEL codes. It stays put.
Well done Gruveparts

Seems to be built very well and fit perfectly! Wish it was a bit less expensive, but isn't that everyone on everything they purchase! Definitely will be watching Gruven for parts I need in the future!

The GrüvenParts billet aluminum intake manifold linkage arm for the 2.0T is a quality manufactured part that replaces the stock plastic part from the factory. It is a simple swap that will provide the owner with the assurance of knowing that at least the linkage arm wont fail! As usual, GrüvenParts has proven that it doesn't take much to make a factory part better using the proper material so that it lasts longer and functions without failure. Right on!

I just installed these linkage arms on my b6 3.0 and it feels like I have a new engine! My order arrived very fast, the arms are high quality, the install was easy, and my car runs great.
I was wondering why my car seemed sluggish and I discovered one of the arms on my actuator was broken. The options I initially found were not good, buy a whole new assembly with the same crappy plastic control arms that broke for $500 to $800 plus labor, find a salvage assembly with the same crappy plastic arms that broke, live with a car that runs much worse than it should, or drop $55k + on a new car. The local dealer thought the last option was the best! I got lucky and found about Gruven's solution - at less than $100, this is the best value I' ve gotten on anything I a long time. If you're in the situation I was in with your 3.0 Audi, don't hesitate to buy these linkage arms!

Awesome, thanks for the review and please post pics on the Audi forums. Yes Audi is screwing people with this silly problem and they are doing it on all the variable intake manifolds. Ridiculous in such an expensive car ...

Our OEM manifold is so prone to failure that VW had to extend the
length of warranty on it. That's all well and good but if I can avoid
a failure, which could very well happen when access to a dealer
service dept isn't readily available at the time of the breakdown, I
would much rather avoid the hassle I would have to go through
in getting back to a proper functioning intake manifold. This part
gives my intake manifold added 'crucial' strength in a vital area
and for the low price and easy '10 minute' install it requires, I see
it as adding to the proper long term performance of my Turbo Beetle
and recommend it highly to all Audi & VW 1.8 and 2.0 car owners..

Thanks Ron, we're glad you got it installed and made the manifold much more reliable. No sense in replacing an entire manifold and the associated headaches when all thats really needed is the metal linkage arm. Please post up some pictures if you can!
